Demand for Cheney Impeachment Gaining Ground

It has been two weeks and two days since Rep. Robert Wexler, Rep. Juan Guttierez, and Rep. Tammy Guttierez kicked off their WexlerWantsHearings website.  At the time of this diary, they have garnered 166,000 supporters in their effort to drive home the message that VP Richard Cheney's words and actions obligate the House Judicial Committee to investigate. That averages out to 10,375 people per day stating they want hearings to begin immediately!  

Initially, the media refused to print the Op-Ed article prepared by the three Representatives. Thankfully, in the last few days, even the media is beginning to realize this movement will not be silenced.  There's a buzz in the blogosphere and it's spilling over into the main news sources.  

As noted by dlindorff in his diary, People Power Moves Corporate Media to Do the Right Thing,

Wexler, speaking on Florida Progressive Radio Thursday night, said it was clearly grassroots pressure and reporting on the Internet (inclulding by this site!) that forced editors at the Miami Herald to change their position on the editorial.

The Chicago Tribune has gotten into the act, as well.

In an effort to put this Call for Impeachment more squarely in the public eye, one of our own Kossacks, victoria2dc, has provided a space for us at dailykos-ACTION_IMPEACH to coordinate our information and actions to make the greatest impact.  Victoria & I have an ongoing conversation with Brian F*., who is in charge of Wexler's online efforts.   Brian has indicated he will be monitoring our diaries and is eager for our assistance in spreading the word of this immense opportunity.  

Kossacks are well known for their determination, fact-based reasoning, and ability to get things done. You have been instrumental in the phenomenal progress already generated. It's time to turn the volume up another notch and turn this snowball effect into a virtual avalanche!

1. Contribute your Knowledge & Experience to the Action/Resource Group at:  dailykos-ACTION_IMPEACH

This Yahoo group will help you write letters to your representative about the need for impeachment hearings. We'll help you engage your friends and family and we’ll connect you to ACTION ITEMS in response to Congressman Wexler's appeal for hearings.

Let's gather up all of those links, letters, experiences, ideas, successes, contacts, and stray bits of knowledge that are scattered among us.  We can use our collective focus to make these hearings happen.

2. Sign Rep. Wexler's Petition at: WexlerWantsHearings

"The charges are too serious to ignore. There is credible evidence that the Vice President abused the power of his office, and not only brought us into an unneccesary war but violated the civil liberties and privacy of American citizens. It is the constitutional duty of Congress to hold impeachment hearings."  

Ask EVERYONE you know to check out the site. You may just be surprised to find a few 'closet' impeachment supporters out there....

3. Write a Letter to the Editor using this handy tool.

The beauty of this lay in it's ability to write to several papers at a time!  More bang for your buck, so to speak...

What to write?  Promote the Petition website, ask why the major media is ignoring the story, present the facts indicating the need/obligation for impeachment hearings, or any combination of the aforementioned!  It's your voice.  Use it!

4. Call or e-mail ALL the Members of the House Judiciary Committee and tell them you want hearings scheduled immediately!
