Last Friday, a remarkable event occured.  One that a growing majority of all Americans have been breathlessly awaiting.

Three members of the House Judiciary Committee called upon The People to join them in demanding for immediate impeachment hearings against V.P. Richard Cheney.  They even crafted an Op-Ed article explaining their intent and submitted it to the New York Times and The Washington Post, to name two of the most prominent recepients.  Both papers refused to print it.

Five days have passed.  We've not heard a whisper of this bold move anywhere in the mainstream media.  You know the sound....

In just two days a massive amount of people have responded to the Wexler Wants Hearings petition Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) have put forth calling for immediate hearings on the impeachment of V.P. Dick Cheney.

And the numbers continue to rise at a fast, steady pace.

Constitutionally and Lividly yours,

One of our local activists, Nick Egnatz of Veterans for Peace, has called for impeachment.  In a letter published in the The Post-Tribune (it's the third letter), Egnatz made this point:

Impeachment is necessary because we are either a country of laws or we are not. There are certainly many other absolutely legitimate grounds for impeachment, but the war of aggression is the most glaring.

He's right.

He also inspired me to write a(nother) letter to Rep. Pete Visclosky (IN-01).  I've included it below the fold.

Kucinich - He's walked a mile in our moccasins . . .

Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 11:01:24 PM PDT

The headlines these days are filled with the ongoing nightmares of the collapsing mortgage industry, of a health care system that is draining the lifeblood of American citizens, of violence no matter which direction we turn, and of the bone-deep corruption in our government.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich is intimately familiar with all of these issues on a personal level.  He's dedicated his entire life to bettering the world and standing in opposition to those who think might and money are the ultimate powers.

Laughter is the Best Medicine (w/ video)

Fri Nov 09, 2007 at 06:08:03 AM PDT

Things have been pretty intense around here recently.  I find myself either wanting to scream with frustration, cry over the seemingly deaf representation we have in office, or hold myself in check when it appears we're making progress because I'm afraid to get my hopes up.

With all this drama going on, I sometimes find myself in need of a sanity break.  Laughter has become my remedy for outrage overload.  It sounds like a few others may be in the same boat.

So, in the interest of maintaining some semblence of balance, follow me over the fold for one of my favorite picker-uppers.

Congresscritters - Your guaranteed landslide victories await you...

Thu Nov 08, 2007 at 07:01:19 AM PDT

It's in the bag. Start chilling the bubbly!

The numbers say so and have been increasing steadily.  I'm talking about that current big fat 11% approval rating you've proudly earned.

I can see you shaking your head.  "Wait a minute... How do you come up with a landslide victory when our approval rating is in the sub-basement?"

The answer is ridiculously obvious and appears it's being overlooked by all but a very few now holding Congressional seats.  Figured it out yet?

Follow me over the fold for the good news.

Dodd GETS the 'Big Picture' - Video

Sat Oct 20, 2007 at 08:24:33 AM PDT

This past week, Kossacks worked with Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and his support staff on a major step in restoring our Constitution.  Having been lucky enough to be a small part of the ongoing efforts to kill that gawdawful FISA bill, Chris Dodd and his team grabbed my full on attention.

It triggered my memory on the interview he did on Countdown recently. He had piqued my interest with his discussion of Letters from Nuremburg, which is a collection of letters written by Thomas Dodd (Chris's father) to his wife, Grace, as he participated in the Nuremburg trials. (This portion is about 4:30 into the interview.)  I remembered the hairs on the back of my neck standing up when was describing the things his father reported on - because it's exactly the same things we're dealing with right now.

With these two experiences under my belt, I had to know more.  That's when I found a video that moved Sen. Dodd to the top of my list.

Curious enough yet?  Jump down for the video...

Rendition: Maher Arar testimony LIVE NOW!

Fri Oct 19, 2007 at 08:41:56 AM PDT

I just happened to pop over to C-Span 3 and noticed Mr. Arar testimony to the Judiciary Constitution & Civil Liberties Subcommitte - via satellite link-up from Canada.

Rep. Nadler-D (sorry, I didn't jot down his state) just royally ripped the Admin's handling of this case.

Call from a wingnut...

Recently, I had a Letter to the Editor published in my local paper.  Evidently, it hit a nerve with someone.  Not surprising, really, considering the strong language.  What caught me a bit off balance was the manner in which I received that response.

UPDATE: Sick to death of the Deceit, Malice, Greed, and Hubris

Thu Sep 06, 2007 at 10:27:30 AM PDT

** Scroll down, please, for UPDATE **

With all the focus on the soon to be re-convened Congress, I decided to write yet another letter to Sen. Lugar (IN-R), Sen. Bayh (IN-D) and Congressman Visclosky (IN-01).  By the time I finished sending off the third letter, I was trying to figure out who else I could contact.  That resulted in letters to the editor in both of my local newspapers, one of which has a comments section, so that should be interesting.

Anyway, I freely authorize anyone who wishes to 'borrow' my letter, to do so.

Convert the Troops -> courtesy of YOUR tax dollars!

Fri Aug 31, 2007 at 08:22:05 AM PDT

I've been contemplating which topic I wanted to write about in my first diary.  Someone suggested I give some tips on savvy mortgage shopping since I'd mentioned that I'd been in that industry for 25 years.  I'm still stewing on that one because I'm just disgusted with the whole nightmare.  Besides, it's a lot of material to cover!

So what did I finally settle on?

How about a little tidbit I stumbled across that states Bibles, from an overtly evangelical group, are being shipped to US Troops via military airlift - for FREE?!!!?
